General Applicants
An interested candidate should submit:
- A completed enrollment application
- The enrollment fee
- Documentation of a high school diploma or GED, or the foreign equivalent
- Students who have attended an accredited university or college in the United States recognized by the U.S. Department of Education may submit an official school transcript in lieu of a high school diploma. The transcript must be mailed directly to The Paralegal Institute from the university or college.
Candidates for admission should have:
- Ability to speak, read and write English fluently
- The ability to use a personal computer and the Internet
- The ability to receive and send email
- The ability to be self-motivated and work independently
Additional requirements must be met for the following programs:
Legal Nurse Consultant Program - Potential students of the Legal Nurse Consulting program must present a copy of their credentials (i.e. R.N., B.S.N., or M.D.).
Enrollment Dates
You may enroll and begin a program at any time. There are no specific starting or ending dates. Enrollment applications are accepted throughout the year. An enrollment agreement is subject to final approval and acceptance. If, for any reason, you are not accepted into The Paralegal Institute, all monies remitted with the Enrollment Application will be promptly returned.
Transfer of Credit Policy
Students pursuing an associate’s degree may receive up to 15 hours of transfer credit for courses that satisfy the subject matter, and curriculum requirements of the student’s degree program. The credits must have been awarded by institutions accredited by agencies that are recognized by the United States Secretary of Education and/or The Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The Paralegal Institute reserves the right to accept or reject any or all academic credits offered for transfer. Due to considerable differences in course content and instructional quality of work done at other colleges or schools, The Paralegal Institute does not consider grade points or hours attempted for work completed at other institutions. Therefore, transfer credit neither raises nor lowers a student’s grade point average.
The acceptance of transfer credits between institutions lies within the discretion of the receiving college or university. Credits earned at other institutions may or may not be accepted by The Paralegal Institute. Likewise, credits earned at The Paralegal Institute may or may not be accepted by another institution depending upon its own programs, policies, and regulations. Students planning to complete credit elsewhere before applying to The Paralegal Institute are advised to contact the Admissions Office and check on the acceptability of credits from that institution. Likewise, any student relying on The Paralegal Institute credit for transfer to or enrollment in another institution is urged to check with that institution prior to enrollment at The Paralegal Institute.
Foreign Credentials
The Paralegal Institute welcomes applications from individuals with credentials from non-U.S. institutions. Such applicants must first obtain an independent foreign credentials evaluation from Education Credential Evaluators, Inc. (ECE), Post Office Box 92970, Milwaukee, WI 53202-0970, USA, telephone 414.289.3400, fax 414.289.3411, or another independent U.S. evaluator approved by the college. Request forms and cost information are available at the ECE website (www.ece.org). Foreign undergraduate applicants must obtain a general evaluation while subject evaluations will be required for individual transfer courses.
All programs at The Paralegal Institute are taught in English. Applicants whose native language is not English and who have not earned a degree from an appropriately accredited institution where English is the principal language of instruction must receive a minimum score of 500 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL PBT), or 61 on the Internet Based Test (iBT), or a 6.0 on the International English Language Test (IELTS).
